Eternal Summer (text: William Shakespeare) for mixed choir; 5' (2005)
composer’s note: “Eternal Summer” is a completely unashamed exploration into the beauty of choral sound. In setting Shakespeare’s classic sonnet “Shall I compare thee to a summer’s day?” to music, I’ve used sumptuous harmonies, full-throated singing, and simple declamation of text. “Eternal Summer” is about the glory of choral singing, the beauty of human voices singing together, big juicy sonorities, and the passionate love in Shakespeare’s text.
