Scott offers private composition lessons in person (in the Madison, Wisconsin area) or via Skype / FaceTime (anywhere). Scott's past composition students have gone on to be professional film orchestrators, composition professors, and more. This summer, a high school student who currently studies with Scott won the Silver Medal in the national NAACP ACT-SO competition for Music Composition. Contact Scott to set up a first lesson!
From 2005-2007, Scott designed and taught an undergraduate composition curriculum at the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also taught general music & orchestration courses at Albion College in 2008-2009. Since then, Scott has done less classroom teaching and more one-on-one teaching. One exception is his regular summer job teaching high school and middle school students at the University of Wisconsin-Madison Summer Music Clinic, where he teaches classes in Rock/Pop Songwriting, Composition & Arranging, Vocal Technique, and more.
Scott sings tenor professionally with the Madison Choral Project (and other choirs on occasion)
Scott also sings rock, folk, musical theatre, and other non-classical repertoire. For example:
Scott is pianist and Principal Vocal Coach for Madison Opera. He has also worked as a coach for Atlanta Opera, Opera North, Endstation Theatre Company, the University of Wisconsin-Madison Theatre and Opera programs, and more.
Opera singers and recitalists from around the world have coached with Scott, to learn full operatic roles, work on foreign language diction, more fully inhabit the styles & "feels" of various composers' work, learn newly-composed music for which no recording exists (one of Scott's specialties), and more.
